Verse 33

Knowing others is intelligence;

knowing yourself is true wisdom.

Mastering others is strength;

mastering yourself is true power.

If you realize that you have enough,

you are truly rich.

if you stay in the center

and embrace death with your whole heart,

you will endure forever.

Actually, as I thought more about this I realized that what I am doing is not really proper and is a probably a copyright violation. So I will no longer be posting these after today. While I certainly don't want to take money away from Stephen Mitchell particularly since this translation is so well done. However, it is such a shame that so much modern day knowledge and wealth is only available for sale; that we make everything about business and making money. It is a shame that a spiritual guide as ancient as the Tao Te Ching is hidden behind a copyright. Yes, I get that Stephen Mitchell's translation of it is fantastic and he deserves to be well compensated for it. Absolutely. But for 70-120 years? Seriously? But I won't go into my "we have bastardized the purpose and intent of copyrights" rant
